CHARLESTON, South Carolina (July 31, 2019) – FIU football's
James Morgan was named to the 2019 College Football Performance Awards (CFPA) National Performer of the Year Watch List on Wednesday, as the quarterback continues to compile more national recognition with the 2019 season quickly approaching.
Morgan joins a list of 34 players from the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS). In addition to Wednesday's honor, the Green Bay, Wisconsin native has been named to the Davy O'Brien Award Watch List, Wuerffel Trophy Watch List and the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team ahead of the 2019 season.
Thirty-four players earned spots on the list, including 2018 CFPA National Performer of the Year Trophy winner Tua Tagovailoa of Alabama. All FBS players are eligible for the award. The award winner will be announced January 15, 2020.
In his first season at FIU, Morgan took the conference by storm as he earned C-USA Newcomer of the Year honors on his way to a record-breaking season. The Green Bay, Wisconsin native broke single-season school records for passing touchdowns (26), highest passer efficiency rating (157.6) and total offense per play (7.67). Morgan also garnered C-USA Honorable Mention, C-USA Spirit of Service Award, Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award Watch List and Manning Stars of the Week to name a few distinctions.

Entering its 18th year of football in 2019, the FIU Panthers are coming off a program-best nine wins a season ago. FIU capped 2018 with a 35-32 victory over Toledo in the Makers Wanted Bahamas Bowl to finish the season 9-4 overall. Under legendary head coach
