BOCA RATON (Aug. 30, 2019) - The FIU cross country program opened up the 2019 campaign Friday, with a number of impressive performances at the FAU Collegiate XC Invitational.

Sherilene Gelderblom placed second and
Rahel Gerbretsadik finished fifth to lead the FIU women to a fourth place finish. Gelderblom, coming off All-CUSA honors outdoor season, ran 18:33, while Gebretsadik followed behind in 19:10.
Anais Da Silva, Isabella Areces, and
Merlica Faustin rounded out the top five for the Panthers.
On the men's side, the Panthers pack running was a point of emphasis heading into the meet, and FIU executed with a 2.2 second split between runners one through five. Freshman
Christian Aubert led the Panthers with a 17:33, while
Eliseo Torres,
Daniel Areces,
Christian Alexander, and
David Suarez were right behind. Freshman
Eric Romo completed the 5K 11 seconds after Suarez, finishing in 18:46.
UP NEXT
The Panthers will be off for a week before traveling to Gainesville to compete in the Mountain Dew Gator Cross Country Invitational.
