Panthers Face Owls on the Road

FIU continues conference play with a game at Rice on Saturday.

MIAMI (Jan. 10, 2020) – The FIU men's basketball team continues its road trip with a Conference USA contest at Tudor Fieldhouse against Rice on Saturday, Jan. 11. Tipoff is slated for 3 p.m. ET.

BY THE NUMBERS
The Panthers come into the game first nationally with 110 total blocks this season. The team also ranks third for blocked shots per game (6.9) and fifth with 167 total steals and 10.4 steals per contest.

Osasumwen Osaghae leads the country with 68 total blocks, and the senior is also second with 4.25 blocked shots per outing. Antonio Daye, Jr. posts 5.0 assists per game to lead C-USA, and the sophomore is also first in the league for total assists (80).

LAST TIME OUT
FIU dropped its first C-USA game of the season, falling to North Texas 74-56. The Mean Green held the 32-18 advantage for points in the paint, and the Panthers shot just 39.2% in the loss.

Trejon Jacob led FIU in the points, scoring 13 in the loss. Osaghae finished with 11 points while Devon Andrews posted 10 points and seven rebounds in the loss.

GETTING TO KNOW RICE
The Owls enter the contest at 8-8 for the season and 0-3 against Conference USA opponents. The Owls are shooting 42.1% from the field, and the team averages 73.5 points per game.

Trey Murphy III leads the squad with 13.3 points per outing. The guard is also first on the team with 1.2 steals per game. Drew Peterson comes in averaging 6.6 rebounds per contest, and the sophomore is shooting 41.9% from the field.

UP NEXT
FIU returns to the Ocean Bank Convocation Center for a pair of conference clashes. The team faces UAB on Thursday, Jan. 16, at 7 p.m. before taking on MT on Saturday, Jan. 18.

ALUMNI GAME
The FIU men's basketball program welcomes back its alumni to the Ocean Bank Convocation Center on Saturday, Jan. 18, for the Panthers' game against Middle Tennessee. Tipoff from the Conference USA clash is set for 7 p.m. ET. The 2019-2020 campaign marks the 25th anniversary of the banner season, which resulted in the program's first NCAA appearance.
