Tennis Heads to Nebraska

The Panthers travel west for pair of matches

MIAMI (Jan. 23, 2020) - The FIU women's tennis team continues the season with a road trip to the Midwest, making a stop in Lincoln, Nebraska for a pair of matches. 

FIU will take on the hosting Cornhuskers at the Dillon Center Friday, Jan. 24 at 6:00 p.m. ET and will face Kansas City on Saturday, Jan. 25 at 12:00 p.m. ET. 

SCOUTING THE HUSKERS
The meeting between FIU and NU will be a first, with both teams coming off of dominating season-opening starts. The Huskers swept Sacramento State 7-0 at home on Saturday, Jan. 18. The Huskers are lead by four letterwinners from the 2019 season including seniors Claire Reifeis, Hayley Haakenstad and Emma Worley as well as sophomore Jessica Aragon. Coached by Scott Jacobson, who enters his 28th season as Nebraska women's head coach. Nebraska has consistently ranked among the Top 75 teams nationally for nearly 20 years, while making regular NCAA Tournament appearance. 

SCOUTING THE ROOS
Another first for the Panthers who will go head-to-head with the Roos on day two at the Dillon Center. The Roos kicked off their 2020 season at the USTA/ITA Central Region Championships and were represented by senior Yana Grechkina on Oklahoma. Lead by Kendell Hale, who enters his 11th season as the head coach of both the men's and women's programs at UMKC. Guiding both teams to numerous school-record wins and seven NCAA appearances.

UP NEXT
The Panthers travel home for three consecutive weeks of tennis on the home courts. Beginning Feb. 1 against FGCU with action slated to begin at high noon.
