MIAMI (Nov. 30, 2020) – FIU women's basketball head coach
Jesyka Burks-Wiley announced the latest addition to the 2021 signing class on Monday, with Hope Butera from South Georgia Technical College set to join the Panthers.
"Hope will be a welcomed addition inside for us. She has great size, hands and mobility, which will give us much-needed depth in the center position," Coach Burks-Wiley said. "Some of her best basketball is still ahead of her and we are grateful that we will have the chance to help her reach her full potential!"
Butera, a 6-3 post player from Kigali, Rwanda, averaged 4.2 points and 3.8 rebounds during her freshman campaign, helping South Georgia Tech to a 30-2 record before having the season cut short due to the Covid-19 outbreak.
"I chose FIU because I feel like I have a future there," Butera said. "I feel that Coach Burks and the FIU coaching staff will help me to improve as a student and as a basketball player."
Before arriving at South Georgia Tech, Butera won multiple MVP titles and earned a Zone 5 gold medal as a member of the U18 3x3 team in her native country of Rwanda during her high school career.
