FIU Welcomes Carver for Final Non-Conference Contest

The Panthers look to improve to 6-2 when the team hosts Carver on Monday night.

MIAMI (Dec. 20, 2020) – FIU men's basketball closes out the non-conference slate with a contest against Carver College at the Ocean Bank Convocation Center on Monday night. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m. ET.

LAST TIME OUT
FIU fell to Georgia Southern 103-99 in double overtime on Saturday night for the team's first home loss this season. FIU went 52.7% from the floor and 51.5% from three in the loss. Despite the setback, five Panther players scored in double figures. After going scoreless in the opening frame, Antonio Daye, Jr. led the squad with 22 points and six assists, while Petar Krivokapic logged a career-best 14 points.

BY THE NUMBERS
As a team, FIU ranks third with 12.9 three-pointers per game. The squad also comes in fourth for threes attempted (246), fifth for threes made (90) and 20th in total steals (67).

Daye, Jr. ranks fifth nationally and first in Conference USA with 55 free-throw attempts and 15 in the country with 37 free throws made. The guard is also 25th in the NCAA with 141 total points and 16 total steals. Dimon Carrigan ranks 16th nationally and third in the league with 16 blocked shots.

SCOUTING THE COUGARS
Carver comes to the Sunshine State at 0-13 this year. The team is averaging 43.1 points per game while shooting 28.6% this season. Bryson Scott comes into the game averaging 9.2 points per game, while Paul Hepburn posts 8.3 per outing.

UP NEXT
FIU begins Conference USA play with a pair of games against Old Dominion to open 2021. The first game against the Monarchs is set for 7 p.m. ET on New Year's Day.
