MIAMI (Dec. 21, 2020) – The FIU men's basketball team closed out 2020 with a game against Carver College at the Ocean Bank Convocation Center on Monday night. The Panthers set a new program record for assists and three-pointers during the team's 111-34 victory over Carver.
The Panthers moved to 6-2 with the victory, while Carver remained winless on the season.
FIU shot 60.5% from the floor and 57.1% from the three in the first half. The Panthers earned a 39-2 run over the course of nine minutes during the period, helping the team hold a 60-16 advantage at the half. FIU's bench outscored the Cougars' 29-10, and the Panther squad had the 22-6 edge in points in the paint. Individually,
Eric Lovett posted a squad-high 13 points, and
Antonio Daye, Jr. logged seven assists during the period.
In the second half, FIU continued to dominate, going 55.6% from the field while holding Carver to 30.8% shooting.
Petar Krivokapic led the way with 11 points in the half, and the team topped the Cougars 111-34.
The Panthers' 34 assists and 20 made threes were new program records. The previous record for assists was set in 1990, while the last mark from three was set at Cleveland State last year.
Individually, Krivokapic and
Cameron Corcoran tallied 17 points apiece to pace the Panthers. Daye, Jr. tallied a double-double with 14 points and 10 assists.
Javaunte Hawkins logged a season-high eight assists during the victory.
