Panthers Take Down Gamecocks at Home

Antonio Daye, Jr. scored 28 in FIU’s win over Jacksonville State.

MIAMI (Dec. 4, 2020) – The FIU men's basketball team hosted Jacksonville State for a game at the Ocean Bank Convocation Center on Friday night. The Panthers topped the Gamecocks 74-70 to go 4-0 for the first time since the 2002-03 season.

With the win, FIU moves to 4-0 this season while Jacksonville State goes to 3-2 for the year with the loss.

The Panthers started the game on an 11-0 run, but JSU stormed back by shooting 46.4% as a team, and at the half FIU led by just three. The Panthers shot 43.8% from the floor during the opening frame and 28.6% from three for the 38-35 advantage. Antonio Daye, Jr. led the Panthers with 12 points and four assists, while Radshad Davis had seven rebounds and six points to start the contest.

Coming out of the break, FIU went 12-30 from the floor and just 3-12 from beyond-the-arc. Despite being down eight, the Panther squad held JSU without a field goal during the final 5:15 of the contest and rallied for the 74-70 win.

Overall, the Panthers finished the night shooting 41.9% from the field but 27.3% from three. Individually, Daye, Jr. led all players with a career-best 28 points and five assists. Davis posted 10 points and was a rebound shy of a double-double.

FIU and Jacksonville State face off once more from the Ocean Bank Convocation Center on Sunday, Dec. 6. Tipoff for the Sunday matinee is slated for 2 p.m. ET.
