Track Completes Regular Season at BU

Panthers now prep for C-USA Championships

BOSTON (Feb. 15, 2020) - The FIU track and field team wrapped up regular-season action Saturday evening at the Boston University David Hemery Valentine Invitational. 

The Panthers had an impressive performance in the field events. Trinavia Williams set a personal best in the weight throw with a mark of 18.13m, while Bessline Verneau also threw a personal best in the event. 

Filippa Miller, coming off a school-record performance in the pole vault, jumped 3.76m to take second this weekend in a field of 37. Rayquel Berry also took second place, jumping 11.53m in the triple jump, a 45 person field. 

In the sprints on the women's side, Terneka Gibson finished 17th of 301 sprinters in the 200m, crossing the line in 24.58, winning her section. 

In men's action, Queshun Watson-Riggins earned a season-best in the long jump, placing second of 42 in the event with a leap of 7.36m. The sophomore followed that up with a fourth-place jump in the triple, with a mark of 15.05m. 

Freshman Desmond Dorceus saw himself contribute in the shot put, placing eighth with a throw of 15.08m. Tyler Rhodes qualified for the finals of the 60m hurdles, finishing eighth with a time of 8.35. 

Freshman Rok Markelj set a massive personal best in the 800, running 1:53.11 for 42nd of 291 competitors. His prior PR was 1:56.73 at Houston, two weeks ago. Xari Barros-Juba had the second best 800 time for FIU, running a six second personal best for 1:54.56. 

UP NEXT 
The Panthers will now prepare for the Conference USA Championships, held Feb. 22-23 in Birmingham, Alabama.
