Women's Tennis Signs Two

The Panthers welcome Andreea Velcea and Andjela Skrobonja to FIU

MIAMI (Feb. 3, 2020) - FIU women's tennis head coach Katarina Petrovic announced the signing of Andjela Skrobonja and Andreea Velcea on Monday afternoon. The pair will join the Panthers in fall of 2020. 

"I am very excited to announce the official signing of Andjela and Andreea," Katarina Petrovic said. "They will bring a tremendous amount of experience to our young team. Both ladies will make an immediate impact to our program and they are unbelievable competitors. We are excited to welcome Andreea and Andjela to our Panther Family."

Andjela Skrobonja | Sombor, Serbia
The Serbian native will make her way to FIU in August. An exciting addition to the crop of talent on the Panther squad, she brings with her an impressive resume. Most recently, she represented Serbia at the European Junior Championship in Switzerland in back-to-back years, 2018 and 2019. She again represented Serbia at the European Junior Team Summer Cup in Czech Republic and competed in the National Serbian Champion under 14,16 and 18. She holds an ITF Junior World Ranking of 110 and was heavily recruited by Power 5 schools Auburn and Texas Tech.

Andreea Velcea | Timisoara, Romania
Velcea graduates from L.P.S Banatul Timisoara and will make her way to South Florida, joining the roster in the fall of 2020. She chooses FIU over Syracuse
Oklahoma, Virginia, Ohio State and Kansas, stating she is looking forward to being coached by Coach Petrovic. Velcea holds a WTA ranking of 1000 and 850 in doubles for the National Romanian Junior champion. She was an under 16 semi-finalist at the Orange Bowl and represented Romania in the European Cup.
