MIAMI (March 30, 2020) - FIU's
James Morgan has garnered a lot of attention over the past few weeks, as the quarterback prepares to hear his name called at the 2020 NFL Draft.
Teams around the league are taking notice of Morgan's intellect, leadership and arm talent as he continues his meteoric rise up draft boards. This is nothing new for FIU fans, but now the nation is taking notice of the Panther quarterback.
"Right now, I'm just trying to control what I can control and make the most of every opportunity I get," Morgan said. "Getting publicity is great, but it's all about getting a team to take a chance on me and doing all I can do to contribute to them winning games."
Over the course of the past month, Morgan and the rest of the nation has had to adjust their daily lives by staying at home and practicing social distancing.
"This has definitely been an unprecedented situation," Morgan said. "We've transitioned from face-to-face to more video conference calls with teams, using FaceTime, Zoom and so forth. I think it's important to handle your business and be ready to go at all times - because the situation is day-by-day, that's all you can do. You can't control what happens with the circumstances, but you can make sure you're ready to go."Â
While at FIU, Morgan led the Panthers to back-to-back bowl games and threw for 40 touchdowns in only two seasons to rank third all-time in program history. Morgan racked up over 5,000 career passing yards at FIU as well to rank third, while his 143.4 passer rating with the Panthers set a new school record. Following his time with the Blue & Gold, Morgan earned the Pat Tillman Award prior to his successful week at the East-West Shrine Game, gaining national buzz from media and scouts.
