FINAL ITA SOUTHEASTERN REGIONAL RESULTS
ORLANDO – The FIU women's tennis team saw a doubles team advance to the quarterfinal round and had a total of three players post at least one win in singles competition during this past weekend's ITA Southeast Regional Championships in Orlando.

Yasmine Kabbaj and senior
Kamila Umarova ripped off a pair of wins in the opening two rounds of competition to advance to the quarterfinals. In their opening match, the Panther pairing handed an 8-2 loss to Florida's Emma Shelton and Bente Spee before posting an 8-3 victory over UCF's Jaleesa Leslie and Anique Kattenberg.
Kabbage and Umarova battled until the end in the quarterfinal round before falling just short by an 8-6 margin to Georgia's Mell Reasco and Morgan Coppoc.
In singles action, sophomore
Andreea Velcea led the way, posting a pair of wins over Florida State's Alice Amendola (6-4, 6-4) and Florida A&M's Aylen Hubeaut (6-3, 6-4).
Velcea faced No. 2 seed Reasco from Georgia in the round of 16, before falling by a score of 3-6, 5-7.
Umarova and Kabbaj each posted opening round wins in the singles bracket. Umarova tabbed a 7-6 (4), 6-7 (5), 6-2 win over Georgia's Guillermina Grant, while Kabbaj registered a 6-2, 6-3 victory against Florida State's Anna Arkadianou.

The Panthers return to action with their first home competition of the season when they host the FIU Invitational from Oct. 29-Oct. 31.
The event will feature matches for FIU against Purdue (Oct. 29), South Florida (Oct. 30) and FAU (Oct. 31).
