MIAMI (Nov. 5, 2021) – The FIU swimming and diving program is set to take on FGCU on Saturday, Nov. 6, when the Panthers travel for a dual meet against the Eagles in Fort Myers, Florida.
Events are set to get underway beginning at 12 p.m. ET from the FGCU Aquatics Complex.
The meet will run the standard 16 event format including two relays, 12 individual swimming events, as well as the 1-meter and 3-meter dives.
FGCU PREVIEW
FIU enters the contest against FGCU with a 2-1 overall record in dual meets this year. The Panthers knocked off Nova Southeastern and Ave Maria last weekend with dominating scores of 174-88 and 222-23, respectively.
The Eagles hold a 0-1 record in dual meets this season after being edged by Vanderbilt by a score of 143-151 on Oct 16. FGCU opened up the season with a first-place overall finish at the UNF Invitational.
INSIDE THE SERIES
FIU holds a three-meet win streak in dual contests against FGCU dating back to the 2018-19 season. The Panthers handed the Eagles a 186-113 loss last spring on Jan. 23, with FIU claiming 12 of 16 events to earn a decisive victory. FIU earned wins by scores of 201-95 (Jan. 25, 2020) and 198-102 (Jan. 26, 2019) in its two prior dual meets against FGCU.
LAST TIME OUT
The Panthers claimed 11 different swimming events including all relay races in FIU's last tri-meet outing against NSU and AMU. A total of six different Panthers also claimed first-place in individual events.
Freshman
Christie Chue was named Conference USA Swimmer of the Week after winning all four swimming events in which she competed against NSU and AMU.
Chue anchored on the 200-yard medley relay and helped FIU win first-place with a time of 23.33 on the final leg. In the 200 freestyle relay, Chue posted a time of 24.43 to help FIU take first overall. The standout swimmer from Singapore also won individual events in the 100 breaststroke and 200 breaststroke with times of 1:02.32 and 2:16.66, respectively.
Stephanie Hussey won the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:01.74, marking the Panther's best-ever performance in the event during a dual meet. Hussey also posted a time of 4:22.65 in the 400-yard individual medley and a mark of 5:04.65 in the 500 freestyle to win both individual events.
UP NEXT
The Panthers will have nearly two weeks to prepare before traveling for a big showdown at the Purdue Invitational. Events are scheduled to take place over the span of three days, with the meet beginning on Thursday, Nov. 18, and concluding on Saturday, Nov. 20.
