MIAMI – FIU senior punter Tommy Heatherly leads a group of five Panthers who were honored with selection to the 2021 All-Conference USA Teams, which were announced by conference officials on Tuesday.
The four other Panthers who earned all-conference accolades included sophomore wide receiver Tyrese Chambers and senior defensive back Richard Dames, both were honored with All-Conference USA second team status.
Senior running back D'vonte Price and sophomore defensive tackle Davon Strickland were each named to the All-Conference USA Honorable Mention list.
Heatherly is a three-time All-CUSA selection after earning honorable mention in 2019 and 2020.
He closes out his FIU career as the top overall punter in program annals. Heatherly boasts each of the top two single season punting averages in program history – including the top mark of 46.8 set in 2021.
The Grove, Okla., native placed 21 punts inside the 20-yard line and boomed 27 punts over 50 yards this season – he also forced 12 fair catches.
Chambers was a big play threat for the Panthers throughout the 2021 campaign, as he ranked second nationally with an average of 23.9 yards per reception.
He also posted the top single season receiving-yard performance in FIU annals with his total of 1,074 yards. Chambers also hauled in the most touchdown catches in a season by a FIU player – with nine in 2021.
Chambers 91-yard TD catch at Southern Mississippi on Nov. 27 marked FIU's longest play from scrimmage in program history.
Dames closed out his senior season as the Panthers' leader in tackles in 2021 with 95 stops – including 60 solo tackles. His 95 stops ranked seventh among conference leaders and his average of 5.0 solo tackles per game ranked 29th nationally. Dames also added an interception to increase his career total to four.
Price finished his career as the second-leading career rusher in FIU history with 2,203 yards – just the sixth Panther to eclipse the 2,000-yard milestone. He averaged 5.2 yards per carry as a senior while compiling 682 yards and six touchdowns.
Strickland was a mainstay all season on the defensive front for the Panthers all season – appearing in all 12 games and registering 53 stops, including three sacks and six tackles for loss. The sophomore also blocked an extra point in FIU's season finale at Southern Mississippi.
