Men’s Hoops Heads to Lone Star State for Series with Miners

The Panthers face off against UTEP in a two-game series.

MIAMI (Feb. 11, 2021) – The FIU men's basketball team travels to the Lone Star State as the team gets ready for a showdown with Conference USA foe UTEP on Feb. 12-13. Both games are slated for 9 p.m. ET.

LAST TIME OUT
The Panthers dropped a pair of contests to UTSA last weekend to continue C-USA play. Antonio Daye, Jr. averaged 22.5 points during the series. The guard also notched his eighth 20-point game when he scored 26 during the 87-80 loss to the Roadrunners.

BY THE NUMBERS
FIU leads the country with 661 threes attempted and 224 threes made this season. The Panthers average 10.7 threes per game, putting the squad in sixth nationally.

Individually, Daye, Jr. comes into the contests ranked 10th nationally and first in C-USA with 44 total steals this season. Dimon Carrigan is 16th in the country and second in the league with 2.58 blocks per outing. The forward has also posted 49 total blocks, which puts the senior 12th in the nation and second in the conference.

SCOUTING UTEP
UTEP enters the weekend at 8-10 overall and 4-8 against league opponents. The Miners have lost two-straight following a series at UAB. As a team, UTEP averages 70.4 points while shooting 42.1% this year.

Individually, the Miners are led by Souley Boum, who averages 17.9 points per game. Bryson Williams comes in with 15.4 points per outing, and the all-conference forward paces the UTEP squad with 6.9 rebounds per appearance.

UP NEXT
FIU returns to the Ocean Bank Convocation Center for its final home series against Southern Miss. Tipoff on Feb. 19 is set for 7 p.m., while the contest on Feb. 20 is slated for 2 p.m.
