MIAMI (Feb. 22, 2021) - Student-athletes at FIU continue to raise the bar in the classroom, as the athletic department posted a 3.31 GPA for the 2020 Fall term. FIU student-athletes have now posted 12-straight semesters with a department GPA of 3.0 or better.
"I want to thank Dr. Elizabeth Bejar, the entire SAAC staff, and our FIU Athletics coaches for the shared commitment to academic excellence," Executive Director of Sports and Entertainment
Pete Garcia said. "I also would like to congratulate all of our Panther student-athletes for their academic commitment and perseverance through the adversities presented with the Covid-19 pandemic."
FIU had 14 sport programs post above a 3.0 GPA, while an impressive five programs exceeded a 3.5 GPA. The women's golf program posted the highest GPA on campus, earning a 3.74 for the fall. The men's soccer team earned a 3.42 to post the highest male GPA on campus.
Overall, 44 student-athletes earned a perfect 4.0 for the 2020 Fall term, while 188 were named to the Dean's List. In addition to the GPA results, FIU had 31 student-athletes earn their bachelor's degree this past December.
