MIAMI (Feb. 3, 2021) - FIU women's tennis head coach Katarina Petrovic announced the signing of Yasmine Kabbaj on Wednesday afternoon. The Morocco native, who owns 51 wins for her junior career, will join the Panthers in the fall of 2021.

"I am extremely excited that Yasmine decided to become part of our tennis family and Panther Nation," Petrovic said. "Yasmine is an incredible singles and doubles player and she will bring depth to our team. Yasmine has proven to be a great world junior competitor and I am looking forward to coaching her."

This past January's ITF Junior Rankings had Kabbaj slated at 83rd overall, which is a career-high for the right-hander.

"I am very glad to be part of the FIU family," Kabbaj said. "Speaking with Coach Katarina Petrovic was a privilege and I loved how she made me feel comfortable throughout the whole process. I believe coming to FIU is an opportunity for me to become a great player and compete on the professional stage."

Most recently, Kabbaj earned back-to-back semifinal performances in a pair of tournaments in South Africa and collected five singles in 2020 alone. Kabbaj also won the Tournoi ITF Junior Meknes Ismailia in her home country of Morocco and the J5 Cario in Egypt. In doubles action, Kabbaj recently won the J3 Pretoria in South Africa, while finishing runner-up at the JB2 Pretoria the following week.

Kabbaj also competed for Morocco in the 2019 Junior Fed Cup, knocking off three teams in doubles play and earning a singles victory over her South Korean foe. Overall, Kabbaj has competed in three Junior Fed Cups, with the earliest coming when she was 14 years old.
