MIAMI (March 16, 2021) - The FIU women's tennis team continues its homestand, as the Panthers host East Tennessee State on Wednesday, March 17.
First serve between the Panthers and Buccaneers is set for Noon.
HOME COOKING
FIU plays its third home match of the season this Wednesday, before taking off again for a couple of matches on the road. The Panthers are undefeated so far on the year, after earning the program's first 4-0 start to open a season since 2007.
FIU has a trio of Panthers undefeated in singles play, with
Kamila Umarova (3-0),
Marina Alcaide (4-0) and
Andreea Velcea (4-0) leading the way. In doubles action, FIU has at least three teams with two wins this season as the 59th-ranked pair of Umarova and
Basak Akbas have earned a 2-0 mark so far.
SCOUTING ETSU
ETSU enters Wednesday's match with a 6-7 record overall, having won their previous contest against Mercer 6-1 last week. The Buccaneers have faced two C-USA foes already, with ETSU taking a 6-1 win over Middle Tennessee before falling to Charlotte 4-1. Laylo Bakhodirova has played at the No. 1 spot in singles for ETSU, as she has earned a 5-7 mark overall.
