Tracks Excels at Hurricane Collegiate Invitational

Panthers finish second week of outdoor season

CORAL GABLES, Florida (March 27, 2021) - The FIU Panthers competed at the Hurricane Collegiate Invitational Saturday, completing the second week of the outdoor season with a number of impressive performances. 

Freshman Rhema Otabor won her second-consecutive meet in the javelin, this week throwing 52.11m - an NCAA top-10 mark. The Panthers also saw first-place performances in the field events from Queshun Watson-Riggins who won the long jump, Kayden Cecil in the pole vault, Devin Mannings in the discus, Alyiah Eugene in the high jump, and Desmond Dorceus in the shot put. 

The success was not limited to the field events. Kaylen Clark earned the victory in the 200m with a PR of 24.72, while Tyler Rhodes cruised to a win in the 110 hurdles with a PR of 14.42. Leonarda Farkas came within a split second of winning the 1500m, finishing second in 4:39.41. Senior Alec Dominguez's strong second lap in the 800 saw him break 2:00 in the 800 for the first time in his FIU career, a third-place finish for Panthers. 

FIU will hit the road next weekend, traveling to Tampa to compete in the USF Invitational.
