DALLAS (March 5, 2021) – Kyla Nelson of FIU women's basketball was named to the Conference USA All-Academic Team, the league office announced on Thursday. The honor marks the first time a Panther has made the team since Marita Davydova in 2015.

Nelson boasts a 3.78 GPA as a Communications Arts major to lead the Panthers in the classroom.

On the court, Nelson is FIU's second-leading scorer as she averages 14.4 points per game. The guard is best known for her marksmanship from behind-the-arc, shooting 44.7% from three-point range. That total ranks 16th in the country, while her 3.0 treys per game ranks 12th-best in the nation.

To be eligible for the C-USA All-Academic Team, nominees must hold a minimum 3.2 cumulative GPA, be a starter or key reserve for their team and be at least a sophomore academically.
