CORAL GABLES, Florida (April 10, 2021) - The FIU track & field team wrapped up a successful weekend at the Hurricane Alumni Invitational Saturday, highlighted by
Rhema Otabor's victory in the javelin.
Otabor, a freshman, threw 49.53m to take the win. Her personal best throw of 54.19m is currently seventh in the NCAA.
In the 1500,
Leonarda Farkas once again put up an impressive performance, narrowly missing out on taking the win. Farkas' second-place finish of 4:38.78 is the third-fastest mark all-time in FIU outdoor history, surpassing Ingrid Odermatt's mark from 1997.
Harrison Mancke placed second in the hammer throw with a mark of 48.77m, while
Filippa Miller placed second in the pole vault with a jump of 3.80m.
On the men's side,
Eliseo Torres continued his strong form. A week after taking the win in the 5000m at the USF Invitational, Torres paced the field in the 3000m, finishing in 8:41.07, a six-second personal best. Torres now has the second fastest 3000m time in C-USA this season.
Desmond Dorceus took second in the shot put with a mark of 16.98m on his first throw, which gives him the second best all-time outdoor mark in FIU history in that event.
Devin Mannings took second in the discus at 49.31m.
Elsewhere in the field events, Queshun Watson-Riggins took a second-place finish in the long jump with a leap of 7.34m, just behind Marquette's Samuel Johnson's mark of 7.40m. Watson also placed eighth in the triple jump.

Devin Mannings took second in the discus at 49.31m.
