HOUSTON (August 5, 2021) – FIU's Davon Strickland was named the 2021 Rotary Lombardi Award Watch List, the Rotary Club of Houston announced on Thursday.

The annual Rotary Lombardi Award goes to the college football offensive or defensive lineman, who in addition to outstanding performance and ability, best exemplifies the character and discipline of NFL Hall of Fame Head Coach Vince Lombardi.

In 2020, Strickland led the Panthers with four tackles for loss along the way to being named to the 2020 Conference USA honorable mention team. Strickland started all five games for FIU in 2020, tallying 15 tackles and at least one sack in three of the five games.

The Lombardi Award has been presented annually since 1970 and was established by the Rotary Club of Houston following Coach Vince Lombardi's death. The net proceeds from the award's activities are contributed to Cancer Research and specifically the American Cancer Society's programs. Four finalists for the 2021 Lombardi Award will be announced on Nov. 9 with the winner being named at an award ceremony in Houston, Texas, on Dec. 8.

The Panthers begin the 2021 season when the FIU welcomes Long Island to FIU Stadium on Sept. 2. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. ET.
