BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Junior
Tevin Brewer notched a game-high 20 points, but it wasn't enough as the FIU men's basketball team dropped an 84-71 decision at Western Kentucky on Saturday afternoon in Bowling Green, Ky.
The Panthers led briefly in the opening half until Western Kentucky's transition game got rolling to open a five-point lead at the break - before outscoring FIU 41-33 over the final 20 minutes to secure the victory.
The Hilltoppers' fast pace pushed them to the advantage as they produced 14 fast break points, including 12 in the opening half and limited the Panthers to zero.
Brewer added nine assists to go along with his 20-point effort. Sophomore
Seth Pinkney matched his career-high with 10 to round out the Panthers' double-figure scorers.
Western Kentucky had a total of five players finish in double figures, led by Josh Anderson's 16. Cameron Justice and Luke Frampton each recorded 15. The Hilltoppers shot 50 percent (30-of-60) overall and made 10-of-23 three pointers.
FIU committed 16 turnovers in the loss and WKU capitalized for a 24-7 advantage in the points off turnover battle.
The loss drops FIU's overall mark to 10-5 and 0-2 in Conference USA action. Western Kentucky moves to 9-6 and 1-1 in the conference loop.
