CORAL GABLES, Fla. (Oct. 2, 2022) – FIU Swimming and Diving opened the 2022-23 season with a road matchup against the University of Miami, Saturday afternoon, falling 103-196.

In the first meet of the season, the Panthers took home five first place finishes and 14 finishes in the top three against the Hurricanes.

The individual races saw strong performances from
Christie Chue,
Mia Zahab and
Harliai Curthoys-Davies.
Â
Sophomore Chue had a great first meet with three first place finishes. She dominated the breaststroke, winning the 100 and 200 with times of 1:02.58 and 2:16.31, respectively. Chue also placed first in the 200-Individual Medley, clocking a 2:04.11.

The freshman Curthoys-Davis showed well in her FIU debut with one first place and two second place finishes. She took the top spot in the 200-Free with a time of 1:51.91. In the 50-Free she clocked a 23.88 and a 5:05.07 in the 500-Free, both good for second.

Senior
Mia Zahab would take first in the 200-Butterfly and second in the 100-Butterfly with times of 2:06.49 and 57.23, respectively.

In the relays, FIU took second place in the 400-Free. The team of
Ana Daisson, Curthoys-Davies, Zahab and
Lamija Medosevic posted a combined time of 3:28.48.

On the dive side
Maha Gouda put in a solid performance. She took third in both the 1-Meter and 3-Meter dives and qualified for NCAA Dive Zones with Saturday's scores.

UP NEXT
The Panthers are back in action next week when they host the TYR Fall Classic. This marquee meet will be held on Friday, October 7 starting at 5 p.m. ET and Saturday October 8 starting at 10 a.m. ET at the Biscayne Bay Aquatic Center.
