#RV FIU Men’s Soccer Set for Midweek Clash with Temple

Panthers head to Philadelphia with a two-match winning streak

MIAMI (Oct. 4, 2022) – #RV FIU Men's Soccer is in Philadelphia to take on Temple, Wednesday night, in the first of two matches for the Panthers this week.

Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET and it will be streamed live on ESPN+.

The Panthers are 6-3 this season. FIU holds a 3-2 record on the road, winning its last match away from FIU Soccer Stadium, a 1-0 victory over VCU.

The Owls welcome the Panthers with a 2-5-2. Temple is 2-2-2 at home and currently on a three-match losing streak.

NEVER OUT OF THE FIGHT
The Panthers earned a dramatic win last week against then No. 22 Memphis. Down 2-1 going into the 83rd minute, FIU would go on to score twice in the space of five minutes and snatch victory from defeat, 3-2.

FIU has shown resilience throughout the years with numerous goals scored after the 80th minute to either win or draw. Since 2017, the Panthers have accomplished this seven times, including last week's upset of Memphis.

The Panthers had a near identical victory last season. FIU found itself down 1-0 to Costal Carolina entering the 84th minute but would go on to score two goals in under two minutes to win the match.

MAKING A MARK
The Panthers 2-0 week earned three weekly honors in the American Athletic Conference. Philip Hildebrandt was awarded Defensive Player of the Week, Joao Domingues was named the Rookie of the Week and Bernardo Dos Santos Monteiro was named to the Honor Roll.

FIU has made a big impact early in its first season in The American. This marks the third week that a Panther has been honored as a Player of the Week and the seventh overall honor the program has garnered this season from The American.

Senior Stephen Afrifa has been named the Offensive Player of the Week twice, freshman Kevin Harr was named a Goalkeeper of the Week, Hildebrandt is the first Defender of the Week, same for Domingues with Rookie of the Week and two Panthers have made the Honor Roll.

SCOUTING TEMPLE
The Owls offense is led by the senior forward tandem of Yann Kouemi and Mike Eijgendaal. Kouemi leads the team with three goals and Eijgendaal has registered a team-best five assists.

The Owls defense has yet to register a clean sheet in 2022 with junior Eoin Gawronski and freshman Micah Ramirez splitting time between the posts. The two keepers have faced 140 shots this year, stopping 53.

UP NEXT
The Panthers return to the friendly confines of FIU Soccer Stadium, Sunday, October 9 when they host UCF. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. ET.
