MIAMI (Oct. 6, 2022) – FIU Women's Swimming and Diving return to the pool this week as hosts of the Fall TYR Classic.

The competition will span across two days with the meet kicking off on Friday, October 7 at 5 p.m. ET and wrap up on Saturday, October 8 with action starting at 10 a.m. ET, all at the FIU Aquatic Center at the Biscayne Bay Campus.

It will be an all-Florida affair with six programs from around the state making the trip to Miami. FAU, Lynn University, Keiser University, Florida Tech and St. Thomas are bringing both their women's and men's team to compete in the TYR Fall Classic with FSU fielding their men's side.

PREVIOUSLY ON …
At last year's TYR Fall Classic the Panthers had an impressive showing, taking 2nd place with 476 total points.

Day one would see FIU break pool records in the 400-Medley Relay and the 400-Individual Medley. The team would accumulate 213 points good for second place in the standings.

Day two saw more impressive performances and records fall. The Panthers would secure its second place finish and out score two Power 5 opponents in Pitt and TCU, with FSU narrowly edging out FIU for the top spot.

STRONG START
FIU opened its first season as members of the American Athletic Conference with a cross-town rivalry dual meet against the University of Miami.

Sophomore
Christie Chue was dominant in the breaststroke against the Canes, winning the 100 and 200 races. She also took first in the 200-Individual Medley. Her performance last week earned her The American Women's Swimming Athlete of the Week honors.

Freshman
Harliai Curthoys-Davies also had a strong showing in her Panthers debut. She would go on take first in the 200-Free and second place in the 50-Free and 500-Free.

Two-Time Olympian
Maha Gouda performed well against Miami as well. She would take third in both the 1-Meter and 3-Meter dives, earning her The American Women's Dive Athlete of the Week honors.

UP NEXT
Swim and Dive will be back in the pool October 28 and 29 when they host Liberty University in a dual meet. Day one of competition will start at 5 p.m. ET and day two will start at 10 a.m. ET, all at the FIU Aquatic Center at the Biscayne Bay Campus.
