Swim and Dive Closes Day 1 of Purdue Invitational in 4th

Panthers earned seven top 10 finishes

MIAMI (Nov. 16, 2022) – Swimming and Diving scored 123 total points and sits in fourth place after the first day of competition at the Purdue Invitational, Wednesday.
 
The 200-free and 400-medley relay teams were stellar, scoring 60 points for the Panthers. finishing fifth and third,respectively.
 
Freshman Harliai Curthoys-Davies had a great night, taking 5th in the 500-free with a personal best time of 4:48.86. She also registered fast times for both relay teams, with a 23.07 in the 200-free and a 49.56 on the 400-medley.
 
Sophomore Christie Chue and graduate student Maha Gouda both earned team-best finishes, taking fourth in their individual events. Chue recorded a 2:00.07 in the 200-individual medley with Gouda scoring a 306.7 in the 3-meter dive.
 
The divers also participated in their first team dive event and set a new school record in the competition with a 275.65.

The Panthers' 200-free relay team of Lamija Medosevic, Curthoys-Davies, Jessica Shpilko and Kelsie Campbell started the day by scoring 28 points with a 1:32.34, good for fifth place.
 
Five different swimmers would go on to score points for the Panthers before the second break, bringing the team total to 70.
 
Curthoys-Davis picked up 14 points with her fifth-place finish in the 500-free.
 
Chue, Nicole Frank and Mia Zahab all scored points in the 200-individual medley, with Frank recording a personal best time of 2:00.72.
 
Gouda's fourth-place finish in the 3-meter earned FIU 16 crucial points.
 
The final event of the day was the 400-medley relay where the team of Medosevic, Chue, Zahab and Curthoys-Davies posted a 3:39.38, good for third place and 32 points.
 
UP NEXT
FIU is back in the pool Thursday, November 17 for day two of the Purdue Invitational. The day starts at 10:30 a.m. with prelims and is followed by the finals starting at 6 p.m.
