Swim and Dive Welcomes Illinois to Miami for Dual Meet

Panthers are in home pool for third-consecutive meet

MIAMI (Nov. 2, 2022) – Swimming and Diving is set to host Illinois, this weekend, in the second dual meet of the season for the Panthers.
 
The two teams will compete on Friday, November 4 at 5 p.m. ET and Saturday, November 5 at 10 a.m. ET, all at the FIU Aquatic Center at the Biscayne Bay Campus.
 
TWO IN A ROW
The Panthers took down Liberty in a dual meet last week, 234-214.
 
The swim events were tightly contested but the dive team stepped up and helped deliver the win, scoring 48 total points.
 
Maha Gouda placed first in all three events. Serena Buchwald took second in the platform and 1-Meter and third in the 3-Meter. While freshman Ruska Lehtonen placed second in the 3-Meter and finished third in the platform and 1-Meter.
 
On the swim side, the Panthers won 13 of the 19 events over the weekend with Christie Chue and Harlia Curthoys-Davies earning multiple wins.
 
Chue once again dominated the breaststroke winning the 50, 100 and 200-yard races. She set season and conference best times in the 50 and 200 with 28.88 and 2:15.01, respectively. The sophomore also picked up a win in the 100-IM, with a conference best 57.80, and was on two winning relay teams.
 
Another dominate performance was put in by Curthoys-Davies in the freestyle events. The freshman won all three freestyle events, setting a personal best in the 500-yard race with a 5:00.48. She also helped deliver three relay wins for the Panthers.
 
Other winners on the day included Lamija Medosevic in the 50-Free, Nicole Frank in the 200-IM and Gia Pergolini in the 200-Back.
 
SCOUTING ILLINOIS
Illinois is 4-1 on the season and will be competing in their first two-day dual meet this weekend against the Panthers.
 
Illinois took a loss and earned a win in a split meet with Northwestern and UIC on the road last week. They fell to the Wildcats 203-92 and beat out the Flames 223-76.
 
The Illini are 0-1 in meets away from Champaign.

Swim and Dive are back in action November 16-18 when they compete at the Purdue Invitational.
