DALLAS, Texas – The Conference USA announced its Men's Basketball Player of the Week awards, presented by Blenders Eyewear, on Monday afternoon, as FIU's
Dashon Gittens was named the Freshman of the Week for his career-best efforts in last week's contests.

Gittens, a native of Hartford, Conn., averaged 11.5 points and 3.5 rebounds on 50 percent shooting from the field and 42.9 percent shooting from beyond the arc over two games for the Panthers.

The freshman guard initially set season-highs of seven points, three rebounds and a block at NC State on Tuesday, Nov. 15, prior to following up with a career-best performance on Saturday night (Nov. 19) against Bryant with career-highs of 16 points, four rebounds and two steals in a career-high 27 minutes played. Gittens was 5-for-10 from the floor against the Bulldogs, including hitting two 3-pointers at a 40 percent clip (2-of-5), while also hitting 4-of-5 shots from the free-throw line for the contest.

Through four starts, Gittens is averaging 7.5 points, behind 47.8 percent shooting overall (11-of-23) and 50 percent shooting from 3-point range (4-of-8), and 2.5 rebounds.

The Panthers host the FIU MTE this week, welcoming visiting Stony Brook and Eastern Washington to the Ocean Bank Convocation Center on Nov. 23-27. The Panthers open against Stony Brook on Wednesday, Nov. 23, for a 7 p.m. matchup prior to facing Eastern Washington on Sunday, Nov. 27, for a 6 p.m. tip inside the OBCC.
