MIAMI (Nov. 5, 2022) – Swimming and Diving finished its dual meet with Illinois, Saturday morning, dropping a tightly contested matchup, 218.5-229.5.

Maha Gouda shined again placing first in the 1-meter and 3-meter dives. She also set a new pool record in the 1-meter with a 338.33.

Sophomore
Christie Chue put in another great performance with two more individual wins (100-breast and 400-individual medley) and a relay victory (400-medley).

The day started off well for the Panthers as they took the opening event with the team of
Harliai Curthoys-Davies, Chue,
Mia Zahab and
Jessica Shpilko clocking a 3:49.34 in the 400-medley relay.

The Panthers' dive team put in one of their best performances of the season in the 1-meter competition. Gouda's 338.33 set a new standard for the FIU Aquatic Center.
Serena Buchwald's 290.48 was a season high and earned second place andÂ
Raquel Mason's 269.63 qualified her for NCAA Zones.

The next two swim victories for the Panthers came after the first break, as Chue won the 100-breast with a time of 1:03.21 and Curthoys-Davies placed first in the 100-free with a 51.18.

Chue earned the Panthers nine crucial points in the final individual race of the meet, winning the 400-individual medley with a 4:22.76, beating out Illinois' Cara Bognar by 0:00.02.

With the meet still in the balance, the FIU divers performed well in the 3-meter competition. Gouda placed first with a 332.48 and Buchwald took second with a 276.60.

The last second push came up just short as the Panthers eventually fell to Illinois, 218.5-229.5.
