FIU Men's Hoops Welcomes Florida National Thursday

Matchup slated for 7 p.m. start inside Ocean Bank Convocation Center

MIAMI, Fla. – The FIU men's basketball team returns to action inside Ocean Bank Convocation Center this Thursday, hosting Florida National for a 7 p.m. matchup.
 
Thursday, November 10 vs. Florida National (1-3)  
The Panthers return to action for its second of eight home nonconference tilts inside Ocean Bank Convocation Center, coming off a 77-66 comeback season-opening win over Houston Christian on Monday, Nov. 7.
 
Sophomore guard Denver Jones led four Panthers in double figures with 23 points, tying a career-high, as FIU rallied from a 17-point first-half deficit prior to outscoring the Huskies in the second half by 20 (45-25) to corral the comeback victory. Freshman guard Arturo Dean tallied 19 points and team-highs of six rebounds, five steals and three assists, while Javaunte Hawkins and John Williams Jr. rounded out FIU's double-figure scorers with 11 and 10 points, respectively.
 
Despite a rough 3-for-16 outing from beyond the arc (18.8%), the Panthers imposed its will inside with 58 points inside the paint, highlighted by shooting 59.2 percent in the second half, to finish the game 50 percent from the field (33-of-66).
 
The Panthers set a single-season record for 3-pointers made in season last year (308), while finishing 15th in the nation in total 3-pointers and leading the Conference USA in threes per game (9.6) – which also marked the C-USA's 12th-highest mark in league history.
 
The Panthers notched 22 points off 22 forced Houston Christian turnovers, while exceling in transition offense and defense with 18 fastbreak points to HCU's 0 for the contest.
 
Additionally, 11 Panthers played in Monday's contest, allowing for a balanced attack that saw FIU record 37 bench points to HCU's five.
 
LAST TIME OUT:
The Panthers last met against Florida National on Nov. 29, 2017, in which FIU picked up a 79-61 win in its lone meeting with the Conquistadors inside the Ocean Bank Convocation Center.
