MIAMI (Nov. 9, 2022) – The American Athletic Conference announced its end of year awards, Wednesday afternoon, naming No. 22 Men's Soccer Head Coach
Kyle Russell and his assistants the Coaching Staff of the Year.
Â
Russell led the Panthers to a 11-4-1 overall record, 6-2-1 conference record and The American regular season championship in the programs first season as members.
Â
Under Russell, FIU sported a prolific offense that scored 35 goals in the regular season. The Panther offense was one of true teamwork as 15 different players scored goals and 11 different players registered assists.
Â
His Panthers proved to be very resilient in 2022. FIU never lost two matches in a row, they went on three-plus match unbeaten streaks three times and hold a perfect 8-0 record in one-score matches.
Â
In three seasons as FIU Head Coach, Russell has amassed a record of 27-10-4 and has won a conference championship in his first two full seasons at the helm, after the 2020 season was cut short due to the pandemic.
Â
This marks Russell's second-consecutive coaching award after he was named C-USA Coach of the Year last season for leading the Panthers to a regular season championship, including beating then No. 1 Marshall to secure the title.
