Swim Takes Eighth at CSCAA Collegiate Open Water National Championship

Panthers place three in top 50

MIAMI (Dec. 18, 2022) – FIU swimming finished eighth in the team competition and placed three swimmers in the top 50 as hosts of the CSCAA Collegiate Open Water National Championship on Sunday morning, just off the shores the Biscayne Bay Campus.

193 athletes from 28 different schools swam a 5k in Biscayne Bay. The men's race featured 83 swimmers while the women's race saw 110 competitors.

Harliai Curthoys-Davies, Christie Chue, Madeleine Anderson, Ryan Flynn and Ana Daisson represented the Panthers.

Curthoys-Davies was FIU's top finisher, crossing the finish line in 1:00:58.91, good for 32nd place. Chue and Anderson were close behind finishing in 35th (1:01:19.17) and 36th (1:01:41.63), respectively.

Flynn finished the four-lap course in 1:03:00.49 and Daisson completed the 5k in 1:04:22.31.

In the women's competition Rice University's Ella Dyson took first place with a 58:08.88 with the Owls also capturing the team championship seeing all four swimmers finishing in the top 20.

Raul Briceno of Mars Hill University won the men's competition with a time of 54:37.54 and the University of Cincinnati won the team competition with two swimmers in the top five.

The Panthers are back in the pool on Tuesday, January 3 when they host the FIU Sprint Invite at the FIU Aquatic Center at the Biscayne Bay Campus.
