MIAMI – The FIU softball dropped a pair of games to Tennessee on Saturday before rain halted play prior to the start of Sunday's action at this weekend's Felsberg Invitational, hosted by the Panthers at FIU Softball Stadium.
 
Sunday's games between FIU and UNC Greensboro and Tennessee vs. Maryland each were cancelled due to rain in the Miami area.
 
The Panthers finished the tournament 1-3 overall following a pair of losses against Tennessee on Saturday.  FIU pushed the Lady Vols before falling 4-3 in the opener and were defeated 7-1 in the nightcap.
 
FIU Came out swinging in game one during the top of the first against the Lady Vols with three runs on a pair of run-scoring singles.
 
Bailey Grossenbacher ripped a base hit up the middle to drive home Venessa Gallegos, giving the Panthers a 1-0 edge.  Gaby Ruiz ripped a single to right field to plate Grossenbacher and Madison Lewis, upping the advantage to 3-0.
 
Tennessee trimmed the deficit to 2-1 in the top of the second on a two-RBI single by Ivy Davis that scored Madison Webber and Rylie West.  Zaida Puni tied the game with a run-scoring single in the third that brough home Kiki Malloy.
 
Kaitlin Parsons put Tennessee ahead 4-3 with a deep drive to left in the bottom of the fourth.
 
Ryleigh White and Ashley Rogers would combine to shut out the Panthers for the final 6.2 innings.  Rogers earned the victory to move to 2-0 on the weekend after fanning seven and allowing just four hits over 4.1 innings of work.
 
The nightcap saw the Panthers and Lady Vols scoreless through the first three innings before a pair of solo home runs by Tennessee put it in front in the bottom of the fourth.  The Lady Vols added another run on an RBI single by Zaida Puni in the fifth before plating four more in the sixth.
 
Grossenbacher drove home Brooke McCann for FIU's lone run on an RBI groundout in the top of the seventh.
 
UP NEXT:  The Panthers return to action on Tuesday, Feb. 15 when they travel to face Stetson in Deland, Fla.
 
First pitch is slated for 2:30 p.m. ET vs. the Hatters.
