MIAMI – Yasmine Kabbaj,
Kamila Umarova and
Ines Bekrar each posted wins in both singles and doubles to lead the FIU women's tennis team to a convincing 4-1 win over No. 19 ranked UCF on Monday afternoon at the FIU Tennis Center.
The win moves the Panthers' record in dual matches to 5-2 overall and extends their winning streak to three consecutive matches. FIU has also claimed five of its last six dual matches overall. UCF slips to 4-4 on the season following the loss.
FIU also secured its first win over a ranked opponent since it defeated No. 28 Rice University on April 2, 2021.
The No. 1 doubles tandem of
Andjela Skrobonja and Umarova clinched the doubles point for the Panthers with a 6-4 victory over UCF's Marie Mattell and Evgeniya Levashova.
In singles play, Kabbaj took the No. 1 match over Levashova 6-4, 6-3 and Umarova took care of Noel Saidenova in the No. 2 slot 7-5, 7-6. Bekrar closes out the match win with a 3-6, 7-6, 6-1 win at No. 6 over Anique Kattenberg.
UP NEXT
The Panthers head to the road this weekend for a pair of matches at North Texas on Friday, Feb. 25 at 1 p.m. ET. FIU will then face Marshall on Saturday, Feb. 26 in a match that will also be played in Denton, Texas.
