BIRMINGHAM, ALA (February 6, 2022) - Sophomore
Filippa Miller reset her school record in the pole vault for the third time this season and a pair of Panthers nearly broke into the FIU all-time top five in their events on an impressive Sunday in Birmingham.
Miller vaulted 4.15m (13'7.25"), an improvement from her mark of 4.09m last week at the Jack Johnson Classic.
"Another school record for Filippa, and the pole vault crew as a whole continued to their tremendous season," said head coach
Ryan Heberling. "We're very excited by all of their development and cannot wait for the conference meet in two weeks."
In the weight throw,
Michaelle Valentin's personal best mark of 18.65m earned her a sixth place finish and was just outside the FIU all-time indoor top five, while freshman
Fabrienne Foster threw 17.27m to place 13th.
"Mick and Fabrienne had big PRs today, and they're all setting themselves up for scoring performances in two weeks."
Marqueisha Weeks throw of 13.64m in the shot put earned her a 12th place mark.
"She put it all together and has shown some real improvement that is going to helo her score big at the conference meet," said Heberling.
Elsewhere, FIU saw top ten finishes from
Kaylen Clark in the 400 (sixth),
Arielle Ho in the high jump (sixth), Nicole Janse Van Rensburg and
Kristin Lubeskie in the pole vault (fifth and sixth), and
Katrina Grigorovica in the triple jump (tenth).
"As a collective team, I'm very excited by today's execution and how it sets us up for the big one in two weeks. There wasn't one area on the track or in the field that had us wanting more today."
The Panthers will now prepare to compete at the Music City Invite in Nashville next weekend.
