MIAMI – The FIU softball team allowed multiple runs in each of the opening five innings as it dropped its second straight game of its weekend series against UAB by a 13-1 margin on Saturday night at FIU Softball Stadium.
UAB took control with three runs in the first and added a pair in the second, third and fourth, before posting four in the fifth. The Blazers tallied a total of five extra-base hits, including a pair of home runs.
FIU scored its lone run in the bottom of the second on an RBI single by
Abigail Brown.
The loss drops the Panthers' overall mark to 14-12 and 0-2 in Conference USA action. UAB improves to 14-9 and 2-0 in league play with the victory.
FIU starter
Brooklynn Linneman (6-3) took the loss after allowing seven hits and seven earned runs over three innings of work. Bailey Tindell (1-4) earned the win for the Blazers with 2.1 innings of shutout relief.
The Panthers finished the contest with five base hits – four singles – one each from
Bailey Grossenbacher,
Madison Lewis,
Venessa Gallegos and Brown. Gabby Ruiz recorded a double for lone extra-base hit.
FIU left a total of eight runners on base in the loss.
UP NEXT: The Panthers (14-12, 0-2) will close out the three-game weekend series against UAB on Sunday, March 13.
First pitch is slated for 12 p.m. ET from FIU Softball Stadium.
