CORAL GABLES, Fla (March 19, 2022) - The FIU track and field program wrapped up the opening weekend of the outdoor season at the Hurricane Invitational, hosted by the University of Miami.
Junior
Tyler Rhodes set a personal best in the 110 hurdles, finishing in 14.34 to take the top college mark in the meet, besting competitors from Pitt, Purdue, and St. Thomas.
Queshun Watson-Riggins, who earned a gold medal at the Conference USA Championships last year in the long and triple jump, started his 2022 campiagn with a third place mark in the long jump at 7.54m.
In the women's hammer,
Michaelle Valentin, competing unattached this meet, took the second spot with a mark of 57.10m. In the men's shotput,
Desmond Dorceus earned a second place finish with a throw of 16.83.
"This was a solid start to our season," said head coach
Ryan Heberling. "We'll have athletes at different meets next weekend, and look to continue to put together good marks to begin our year."
The Panthers will compete at the UCF Invite and Hurricane Collegiate Invitational next weekend.
