MIAMI – The No. 40 FIU women's tennis team posted a win for the second consecutive afternoon with a 5-2 victory over Brown University on Monday at the FIU Tennis Center.
 
The win marked the Panthers' 11^th in their last 12 dual matches overall and improved their home record to 8-1.
 
Yasmine Kabbaj and Basak Akbas paired up to post a 6-3 win in the No. 3 doubles slot before the No. 1 tandem of Kamila Umarova and Andjela Skrobonja recorded an identical 6-3 victory to secure the doubles point for FIU.
 
FIU followed by claiming wins in four of the six singles matches to seal the overall dual win.  Kabbaj (No. 1) made quick work of Brown's Ali Benedetto, 6-0, 6-1 and Kristina Miletic (No. 4) moved past Addison Ahlstrom 6-3, 6-4.
 
Umarova (No. 2) clinched the overall victory with a straight-set 6-1, 6-3 win against Sophia Reddy.  Akbas also tabbed a singles' win at No. 6 with a hard-fought 6-7 (5-10), 7-5, 1-0 (10-6) win that went to the 10-point tiebreaker.
 
Umarova currently boasts a 13-match winning streak in singles play, while Kabbaj has recorded eight straight victories, all while playing in the No. 1 position.  The doubles team of Umarova and Skrobonja has also ripped off nine straight wins.
 
The win improves the Panthers' overall mark to 13-3 on the season.  Brown drops to 6-8 following the loss.
 
UP NEXT
The Panthers hit the road this weekend for a pair of dual matches in Tampa.  FIU will take on Conference USA foe Rice on Saturday, April 2 at 12 p.m. ET before facing USF on Sunday, April 3 at 12 p.m. ET.
