DELAND, Fla. – The FIU softball team scored three runs in the top of the sixth on three hits and two errors to run its winning steak to 10 consecutive games with a 3-1 victory over Stetson on Saturday afternoon at the Stetson Invitational.
The Panthers opened the decisive inning with three consecutive base hits by
Carmen Perez,
Brooke McCann and
Kayla Whitehead.
Brittany Phillips drove home Perez on a sacrifice fly and two more came home when
Madison Lewis reached on an error by Stetson infielder Jules Schumacher to give FIU all the runs it needed.
Stetson had opened a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on an RBI groundout by Lizzie Shubert that drove home Brianna Clary.
McCann led a group of six Panthers that had at least one hit in the win with two – she also scored a run.
Senior hurler
Kendahl Dunford (4-3) tossed her fifth complete game in earning the win. She allowed five hits and one run while fanning five.
The Panthers 10-game winning streak is their longest since 2017 when they posted 17 straight victories.
UP NEXT: The Panthers (14-9) will look to extend their winning streak to 11 games when they close out play at this weekend's Stetson Invitational on Sunday, March 6 with a 10 a.m. ET showdown vs. USC Upstate.
