FRISCO, Texas – Junior Tevin Brewer scored 23 points in the FIU men's basketball team's 74-62 loss to Marshall in the opening round of the 2022 Conference USA Men's Basketball Championship on Tuesday night.
 
The loss ends the Panthers season and sees them finish with an overall mark of 15-17.  Marshall advances to the second round where it will face Louisiana Tech.
 
FIU never led in the loss and trailed by as many as 18 late in the second half.  The Panthers were as close as six at 54-48 when Brewer hit one of his five three pointers on the night with 7:37 left in regulation.
 
Taevion Kinsley led Marshall in the win with a game-high 23 points on 9-of-16 shooting. 
 
Marshall made 25 trips to the free throw line and connected on 19 of those opportunities.  FIU managed just six trips to the charity stripe – but was a perfect 6-for-6 on those attempts.
 
The Thundering Herd also won the battle on the glass as they outrebounded the Panthers 42-34, including 11 offensive boards that they turned into an 11-2 advantage in second-chance points.
