HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The FIU softball team came up on the short end of a 6-0 decision at Marshall on Thursday afternoon in the opening game of a three-game Conference USA set.
The Panthers were limited to three hits in the loss, all singles two of which came off the bat of sophomore
Alexis Ross.
Marshall in each of the opening three innings to build a 4-0 edge before adding two runs in the seventh for the final margin.
Mya Stevenson and Katie Adams each drove in two runs for the Thundering Herd. Saige Pye and Adams each recorded home runs in the victory.
FIU starter
Kendahl Dunford (5-11) took the loss for the Panthers after allowing 11 hits and six runs over six innings of work.
Sydney Nestor (19-5) picked up the win for Marshall with her 21
st complete game of the season. She limited FIU to no runs and three hits while striking out eight. It marked her eighth shutout of 2022.
The loss slips FIU's record to 17-22 overall and 3-10 in the C-USA action. Marshall improves to 26-11 on the season and 9-4 in league action.
UP NEXT: The Panthers continue the three-game set at Marshall on Friday, April 15.
