MIAMI – FIU senior starting pitcher
Kendahl Dunford tossed her 13
th complete game of the season in the Panthers' 1-0 loss vs. FAU in the final game of the weekend series on Sunday afternoon at FIU Softball Stadium.
Dunford struck out six over seven innings of work and issued just two walks. She allowed nine hits.
The game's lone run came on a solo shot by FAU's Kaitlyn Cunningham to lead off the top of the fifth.
FAU starter Lynn Gardner (14-7) went the full seven innings to earn the victory while holding the Panthers to three hits and no runs. She walked four and struck out three.
Cunningham finished the contest with three hits, including the homer, to lead the Owls. Olivia Peterson also recorded two hits for the Owls.
Madison Lewis posted a double for FIU – one of only two extra-base hits in the game, while
Kayla Whitehead added a single.
The loss drops the Panthers' record to 18-26 overall and 4-14 in the C-USA action. FAU improves to 24-22 on the season and 11-7 in league action.
UP NEXT: The Panthers will host Charlotte in the final home series of the season beginning Friday, April 29 at 6 p.m. ET.
