FIU Softball Blanked 8-0 by Western Kentucky in Series Finale

Panthers return home next weekend to face Middle Tennessee State

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The FIU softball team was dealt an 8-0 setback on Sunday afternoon in the final game of a weekend series at Western Kentucky.
 
WKU took a 2-0 lead in the second on a solo homer by Jordan Ridge and added another score when Taylor Sanders scampered home on a wild pitch.
 
The Hilltoppers closed out the game with a six-run fifth that was punctuated by a grand slam off the bat of Sanders.
 
FIU starter Kendahl Dunford and reliever Alexys Lawson combined to allow eight runs, seven of which were earned and seven hits over 4.1 innings of work.
 
Shelby Nunn (14-5) limited the Panthers to three hits – all singles – and no runs, while striking out two and walking none.
 
The loss marks FIU's eighth straight and drops the Panthers' record to 15-20 overall and 1-8 in the conference loop.  Western Kentucky improves to 25-7 on the season and 9-3 in league action.
 
UP NEXT:  The Panthers return home next weekend for a three-game C-USA series against Middle Tennessee State beginning on Friday, April 8 at 6 p.m. ET.
