MIAMI - The No. 40 FIU women's tennis team didn't waste any time in handing FAU a 4-0 defeat on Friday afternoon in its final dual match of the regular season - marking its fifth consecutive victory and 14^th in its last 15 matches overall.
 
Friday's clash also marked FIU's annual Senior Day with Basak Akbas and Kamila Umarova honored in a pre-match ceremony.
 
The match, which saw the Panthers need less than three hours to record the four points to seal a victory, opened with FIU claiming the doubles point following wins in the No. 2 and No. 3 flights – both in straight sets.  Yasmine Kabbaj and Akbas rolled to a 6-1 win at No. 3 before Andreea Velcea and Kristina Miletic tabbed a 6-3 win in the No. 2 slot over FAU's Greta Schieroni and Mille-Mae Matthews.
 
Singles play saw the Panthers get wins from Miletic, Andjela Skrobonja and Umarova to close out the match.  Miletic started things out with a smooth 6-0, 6-1 margin over Amber McGinnis in the No. 4 flight and Skrobonja followed with a 6-0, 7-6 (7-3) triumph at No. 3.
 
Umarova fittingly earned the clinching point for the Senior Day victory with a 6-4, 6-2 win over FAU's Katerina Filip at No. 2.  Umarova has now won each of her last 15 singles matches overall.
 
The win improves the Panthers' overall mark to 16-3 on the season and 9-1 on their home court.  FAU slips to 11-10 following the loss.

The Panthers will now prepare for the to the 2022 Conference USA Championships on April 22-25 in Murfreesboro, Tenn.

2022 FIU Senior Class
Basak Akbas
Our first senior has tabbed over 40 singles win during her career as a Panther and posted a team-best 7-1 mark during the 2019-20 campaign.  She has also been a fierce competitor over her FIU career on the doubles side – boasting over 30 victories.  She is a two-time All-Conference USA Doubles honoree. 
 
During the 2019 season she was recognized with All-Conference USA Singles Second Team status and was also named to the league's all-freshmen squad, in addition to being named as the league's player of the week and FIU's team MVP for the 2019 campaign.
 
She has posted an 8-3 mark in singles play this season, including wins in each of her last four matches.  She is also a perfect 5-0 when pairing up with teammate Yasmine Kabbaj in doubles play in 2022.
 
 
Kamila Umarova
Our second senior boasts over 50 singles wins during her FIU career including 18 during the 2022 campaign.  She has posted wins in each of her last 14 dual matches and has paired up this season with teammate Andjela Skrobonja to post a 13-4 mark in the number one doubles position – one season after the same pair were selected as the doubles pair of the 2021 Conference USA Championship.
 
She is a two-time All-Conference USA First Team Doubles selection in 2019 and 2021 and was a second-team honoree in 2020.  On the singles side, she was recognized with first team Conference USA status in both 2020 and 2021 and has won nearly 80 percent of the singles matches and over 66 percent of the doubles matches in her career.  Was named to the 2021 Conference USA Women's Tennis All-Academic Team.
