MIAMI (May 25, 2022) – FIU's
Karissa Kilby is heading to the 77
th U.S. Women's Open after shooting a two-under-par 142 at the Hawaii Sectional Qualifying.
Kilby becomes the youngest Panther ever to qualify for a major and the first Panther since Meghan MacLaren in 2017 to compete in the tournament.
The Honolulu, Hawaii native was named the Conference USA Co-Freshman of the Year earlier this month.
Kilby collected four Top 20 finishes during her freshman campaign that was highlighted by a tied for fifth finish at the FIU-hosted Pat Bradley Invitational in October and a t9 placing at the C-USA Championships in April.
The rising sophomore follows in the footsteps of FIU legend and 1981 U.S. Women's Open champion Pat Bradley. The six-time major champion is still a major part of the program and is an inspiration to Kilby.
The 77th U.S. Women's Open will be played June 2-5 at Pine Needles Lodge & Golf Club in Southern Pines, North Carolina.
