SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The FIU softball team dropped an 8-0 decision at UTSA in six innings on Friday night in the opening game of a three-game set.
The Roadrunners ended the game early with six runs in the bottom of the sixth after scoring single runs in the first and fifth innings.
The Panthers were limited to four hits in the loss – all singles, two of which came off the bat of
Abigail Brown.
Starter
Kendahl Dunford (6-15) took the loss after allowing four runs, only one of which was earned and six hits over 5.1 innings. She fanned six and issued four walks. Sophomore
Brooklynn Linneman gave up two hits and four runs in 0.1 innings of relief.
UTSA starter Marena Estell (6-9) earned the victory by limiting the Panthers to four hits over 6.0 innings.
FIU committed three errors in the loss and a grand slam by UTSA's Erykah Guerrero sealed the walk-off win for the Roadrunners with a grand slam with two outs in the bottom of the sixth.
The loss drops the Panthers' record to 18-30 overall and 4-18 in the C-USA action. UTSA moves to 17-28 on the season and 10-11 in league action.
UP NEXT: The Panthers will continue the three-game set at UTSA with a 2 p.m. ET first pitch on Saturday, May 7 vs. the Roadrunners.
