MIAMI – One of the nation's most dynamic pass catchers, FIU senior wide receiver
Tyrese Chambers has been selected as one of 43 student-athletes named to the 2022 Biletnikoff Preseason Watch List, which recognizes college football's most outstanding FBS receiver regardless of position.
The list was released on Thursday by The Tallahassee Quarterback Club (TQC) Foundation, Inc., the Florida-based creator and sponsor of the prestigious Biletnikoff Award.
Chambers established himself as one of the top deep threats in college football during a record-breaking campaign last season. He ranked second nationally with an average of 23.9 yards per reception in 2021, while posting the top single season receiving-yard performance in FIU annals (1,074 yards).
The Baltimore, Md., native also recorded the most touchdown catches in a season by a FIU player – with nine. Chambers' 91-yard TD catch at Southern Mississippi on Nov. 27 marked FIU's longest play from scrimmage in program history. He recorded a total of 10 catches of at least 40 yards in 2021.
Chambers is the third FIU player to be named to the watch list for the Biletnikoff Award, joining T.Y. Hilton (2011) and Chandler Williams (2006).
The Biletnikoff Award annually recognizes college football's most outstanding FBS receiver. Any player, regardless of position (wide receiver, tight end, slot back and running back) who catches a pass is eligible for the award. As such, the Biletnikoff Award recognizes college football's outstanding receiver, not merely college football's outstanding wide receiver.
The semifinalists, finalists and award recipient are selected by the highly distinguished Biletnikoff Award National Selection Committee, a group of 640 prominent college football journalists, commentators, announcers, Biletnikoff Award winners, and other former receivers. Foundation trustees do not vote and have never voted. For a list of voters, please see
BiletnikoffAward.com/voters.
Receivers are frequently added to the watch list as their season performances dictate. Actual, not potential, performance is the basis for inclusion on the Biletnikoff Award Watch List.
The Biletnikoff Award candidate eligibility and voting criteria, transparently explicit and detailed, are available for review at

The 2022 Biletnikoff Award winner will be announced at the black-tie Biletnikoff Award Banquet and Celebration. The vent will be held at the Dunlap Champions Club, at Doak Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee on Saturday, March 4, 2023.
Fred Biletnikoff, a member of both the pro and college football hall of fame, was a consensus All-America receiver at Florida State University and an All-Pro receiver for the Oakland Raiders. He caught 589 passes for 8,974 yards and 76 touchdowns in his 14-year Raiders career from 1965 through 1978. Fred was the Most Valuable Player of Super Bowl XI.
The Biletnikoff Award is a member of the National College Football Awards Association. The NCFAA encompasses the most prestigious awards in college football. Founded in 1997, the NCFAA and its 25 awards now boast over 800 recipients, dating to 1935.
FIU kicks off the 2022 season vs. Bryant University on Thursday, Sept. 1 in a 7 p.m. ET kickoff at FIU Stadium.
