MIAMI – FIU tight end Rivaldo Fairweather has been selected as one of the 54 players named to the 2022 John Mackey Award Preseason Watch List.
 
The John Mackey Award is presented annually to the most outstanding collegiate tight end. The award recipient is selected from a vote of the John Mackey Award Selection Committee.
 
Fairweather hauled in a total of 16 catches for 247 yards and a score during the 2021 season.  The athletic tight end averaged over 15 yards per reception and registered five catches of at least 20 yards. 
 
During the 2020 campaign, Fairweather collected 10 receptions for 165 yards, including a career-long 67-yard catch that went for a touchdown.
 
Fairweather's selection marks the seventh time that a FIU player has been named to the Mackey Watch List, joining Sterling Palmer (2019), Jonnu Smith (2014/2015/2016), Ya'Keem Griner (2015) and Samuel Smith (2006).
 
FIU kicks off the 2022 season vs. Bryant University on Thursday, Sept. 1 in a 7 p.m. ET kickoff at FIU Stadium.
