NORMAN, Okla. – Junior
Emily Meyer led the way with 14 kills and 13 digs for the FIU volleyball team in a 3-1 (27-25, 18-25, 18-25, 17-25) setback at Oklahoma on Sunday afternoon in its final match at this weekend's Oklahoma Invitational.
The Panthers (0-3), who were playing their third match in three days, came out hot as they pushed the Sooners to the limit in the opening set before posting a 27-25 victory. Oklahoma battled back for wins in the final three sets by the scores of 25-18, 25-18, 25-17 to secure the match win.
Meyer paced the Panthers with a double-double effort, recording 14 kills and 13 digs. She also added four blocks.
Athina Dimitriadis added 11 kills, five digs and six blocks – she also posted a .400 hitting percentage (11-3-20).
Sierra Moore recorded nine kills, while
Alyssa Wissinger pitched in eight.
Sarah Nading directed the offense with 33 assists and
Katie Turner anchored the defense with a team-high 14 digs.
As a team, the Panthers posted a .110 (145-45-29) hitting percentage, while the Sooners finished at .257 (136-57-22).
UP NEXT
The Panthers return to action next weekend as they head to Atlanta for three matches at the Georgia Tech Invitational. FIU will open play on Friday, Sept. 2 beginning at 6 p.m. vs. Arizona State.
